Wilhelm Schramm

Wilhelm Schramm (born March 21, 1952 in Kaltenbrunn / Itzgrund ) is a German designer, graphic artist, painter and book maker living in Austria.

Life

Wilhelm Schramm studied textile design from 1973 to 1977 at the Coburg / Münchberg University of Applied Sciences . He founded the color box group with Werner Götz and Hubertus Hess and ran his first gallery in Coburg in the mid-1970s. He has been working with authors since 1975.

After completing his studies, he worked as a designer. He moved to Bludenz in Austria. In 1989 he founded the FREIPRESSE publishing house with the printer's owner Bertram Frei and has since been publishing books with original graphics ( letterpress , flat and gravure) and texts by living authors.

Schramm is a member of XYLON Austria, the International Association for Artistic Printing, and the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists .

Focus of work

Graphics play a key role in Wilhelm Schramm's work. The focus of creative discussions is the conversion of texts into images. Above all, the various printing techniques play an important role.

He has been working intensively with Mail Art since 1973 . Since 2003 constant Mail Art projects that are published as books.
