Wilhelm Venn

Wilhelm Venn was the chief protective police director in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Professional training and career

Venn joined the police in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946. In the years 1948 to 1955 he attended the Administration and Business Academy in Wuppertal , the diploma he acquired in 1954. From 1960 he worked as a specialist teacher for Telecommunications at the National Police School of Technology and Communication. From 1966 to 1971 he was head of the protection area in Duisburg and Bochum , after which he was appointed to the Ministry of the Interior of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, where in 1974 he worked as an advisor for technical matters to the police . One of his main tasks was to ensure the functionality of the police by planning and providing efficient communication networks, command and control equipment.

Venn made sure that the citizens of North Rhine-Westphalia can call any police station for advice and information on the emergency number 110 from any telephone connection. Venn also worked to ensure that the use of technology for police officers was made more humane and safer. It is thanks to his dedicated commitment that the police in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have the most modern equipment available. In many cases, his ideas and concepts were adopted by police from other federal states as well as from abroad as pointing the way.
