Wilhelm Winter (* 1968 ) is a German mathematician who deals with operator algebras ( C * algebras ). He is a professor at the Wilhelms-Universität Münster .

Life

Winter studied at the University of Heidelberg with a diploma in 1996 and received his doctorate in 2000 with Joachim Cuntz at the University of Münster with the dissertation Covering Dimension for Nuclear C * -Algebras . He then worked there as a research assistant and completed his habilitation in Münster in 2006. In 2002 he was Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University and from 2007 Lecturer and later Reader at the University of Nottingham . In 2011 he became Professor of Mathematics in Münster.

In 2010 he received the G. de B. Robinson Award with Andrew Toms . He is invited speaker at the ICM 2018 (Structure of nuclear C * -algebras: From quasidiagonality to classification, and back again).
