Willem van Apshoven
Willem Apshoven , also Willem van Apshoven , (baptized September 5, 1664 in Antwerp ) was probably a Flemish painter . He lived in Meppen (D). He had five children with his wife Maria Helena Versen, who was born in Meppen. On June 3, 1728 he appeared as godfather in Rhede (Emsland) as "Wilhelmus Abshoven pictor Meppensis". His son Ferdinand appears in the status Animarum Meppen from 1749 as "pistor", baker. This must also be “pictor”. When his daughter Anna Maria was baptized on September 2, 1693 in Meppen, the paternal grandparents, namely Ferdinandus von Abshoven and Anna Jusina von Overstrate, were the godparents.
Willem Apshoven was the youngest son of Ferdinand Apshoven II and was the only one of his five children to pursue an artistic career. He was listed as a student of Joseph de la Morlet at the painters' guild in Antwerp . Whether he finished this apprenticeship and later continued to work as an artist is still unknown today, in the absence of clearly assignable works, but it can be assumed that he worked on commissions from his master during his training and probably also painted his own pictures.
