William (Argyll)

William († 1241 ) was a Scottish clergyman. Between 1236 and 1239 he became Bishop of Argyll .

Around 1230 the vacant diocese of Argyll was placed under the administration of the bishops of Moray. 1236 demanded Pope Gregory IX. Bishop Andrew of Moravia asked to hold an election for a bishop for the Diocese of Argyll. Before 1239 William was the Chancellor of the Cathedral of Elgin had been elected bishop and consecrated in the year. He drowned at sea in 1241. After his death, Bishop Clement von Dunblane took over the administration of the diocese.
