William Grindal

William Grindal († 1548 ) was an English scholar.

Life

Very little is known about Grundal's origins. It is believed that he comes from Cumberland , where he also met Bishop Edmund Grindal . But the acquaintance is not proven. Both studied at the same university in Cambridge.

He was a friend of Roger Ascham . In July 1544 he was hired by Henry VIII to teach his daughter Elizabeth I in Greek and Latin. In 1548 he died of the plague .
