William L. Kruer

William L. Kruer (born April 20, 1942 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American physicist who mainly deals with plasma physics.

Kruer graduated from the University of Louisville (Masters degree in 1965) and received his PhD from Princeton University in 1969 . He was then a scientist at the university's plasma physics laboratory and from 1970 a permanent member. From 1972 he was group leader for theoretical plasma physics and simulation at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and from 1993 its chief scientist in plasma physics.

In 1978 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . In 1990 he received the James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics .
