William Lyman (inventor)

William Worcester Lyman (born March 29, 1821 in Meriden (Connecticut) , † November 15, 1891 in Hartford (Connecticut) ) was an American inventor.

At the age of 15 he began at Griswold & Coffee in Meriden his apprenticeship as pewter -Schmied and worked there until 1844. After that he worked in the profession until 1880 at various local establishments. He received numerous patents on household items, such as in 1870 for his can opener with cutting wheel.

In 1841 he married Roxanne Griswold Frary, who was a year older than him and also came from Meriden.
