William Pickersgill

William Pickersgill was a shipyard based in Southwick , Sunderland on the River Wear in north east England .

The shipyard was founded in 1845 by William Pickersgill in Southwick am Wear, after the company's founder had previously operated a shipyard with Messrs Miller, Rawson and Watson since 1838.

During the Second World War , the former John Priestman & Company shipyard was also taken over.

In 1954 the shipyard merged with the shipyard SP Austin & Sons, also located in Sunderland, to form Austin & Pickersgill and modernized the operation for about three million pounds sterling . In 1988 the traditional shipyard was finally closed.
