from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William R. White (* 1943 in Kenora , Ontario ) is a Canadian economist . He was one of the few economists to warn early on of the global financial crisis that occurred in 2008 .

William "Bill" White graduated from the University of Windsor . From 1969 to 1972 he worked as an economist at the Bank of England . He then went to the Central Bank of Canada for 22 years . In 1994 he moved to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel , the "Bank of Central Banks".

As early as August 2003, he personally voiced his concerns about Alan Greenspan about his financial policy, but was not heard. The global financial crisis from 2007 onwards confirmed his calculations and warnings.

In October 2009, White became head of the Economic and Development Review Committee at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and, as such, advised the German Chancellor at the G20 meetings .
