Arbitrariness (medicine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In medicine, arbitrariness is the conscious control of body functions via the somatic nervous system . Voluntary muscle contractions take place, for example, in the muscles of the extremities or in the sphincter muscles of the anus ( sphincters ).

In contrast, involuntary body functions, for example the muscles of the heart or the intestinal wall , are controlled by the autonomic nervous system.
