Willy Schreier

Willy Schreier (born January 13, 1907 in Marienau , today belongs to Mülsen ; † April 3, 1988 in Idstein ) was a German politician. He served as mayor of Neuhaus am Rennweg from 1931 to 1945 and as mayor of Idstein from 1948 to 1973.

Life

Schreier completed an apprenticeship in the administration of various communities and then took up a position at the Neuhaus am Rennweg community. At the age of 24 he was elected mayor of the municipality in July 1931 and remained so, interrupted by military service, until the end of the Second World War. In 1946 he fled the Soviet to the American zone of occupation .

On October 26, 1948, Schreier was elected mayor of Idstein as the successor of Wilhelm Dahlhoff and was introduced to his office on December 6 of that year.

Idstein's population had risen sharply since 1939 without the infrastructure being able to keep pace with this development. Schreier therefore saw it as his primary goal to create living space and jobs for the displaced .

As a result, the city not only designated new building land in the area around today's Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, but also acted as the client. In addition, non-profit companies were active in this sector, such as the Idsteiner housing cooperative and the Gemeinnützige Wohnungsbau-GmbH Untertaunus, whose long-time supervisory board chairman was Schreier.

In addition, the city in the Frauwald district designated a new industrial site. Schreier, who had good relations with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry , succeeded in convincing various industrial companies of the optimal transport connection and persuading them to settle.

Schreier also showed his foresight in the course of the regional reform. When the mayors of the surrounding communities were planning small and very small mergers in 1969, Schreier pointed out that even these would not be efficient enough. In the following years he succeeded in integrating ten of the surrounding communities into the city of Idstein on a mutual basis. Schreier became the founder of modern Idstein. Only the municipality of Oberauroff only became part of Idstein after the end of Schreier's term of office.

Schreier retired on December 6, 1973. Hans-Peter Röther was elected as his successor .
