Wimal Weerawansa (* in Kalutara ) is a politician from Sri Lanka . He is the leader of the National Freedom Front and a former Minister of Housing.

In the wake of differences between the UN and the Sri Lankan government over the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the human rights violations during the civil war in Sri Lanka, he mobilized hundreds of his supporters, who have been blocking the UN offices in the capital Colombo since early July 2010 . He then went on a hunger strike, which he said he only wanted to end until the UN gave assurances that the soldiers and political leaders who brought peace to Sri Lanka would not be portrayed as criminals . On July 9, 2010, he announced his resignation as Minister of Housing.
