Windmill Tower (Neuss)
The windmill tower is a former defense tower near the Obertor and the New City Garden in Neuss . It dates from the 13th century.
The tower can be seen on a woodcut from 1477. It served as a windmill until 1849. The robber chief Mathias Weber was imprisoned here in 1796, but escaped by jumping from a height of 7 m.
In 1880, a 416 m 3 water tank was installed at a height of 30 to 35 m and the tower of the Neuss waterworks on Weingartstrasse was used as a water tower . The tower survived the Second World War almost undamaged.
