Windsor Pumpkin Regatta

The Windsor Pumpkin Regatta (Engl. Windsor Pumpkin Regatta ) is a year in the Canadian city of Windsor discharged canoe regatta , competing in the athletes in different painted giant pumpkins to today. Every year in October, 1 to 2 people per pumpkin try to cross Lake Pesaqid first. The distance to be covered is approx. 800 meters.

The race was conceived in 1999 by Danny Dill, whose father Howard runs a pumpkin plantation. Howard Dill's pumpkins can weigh up to 600 kg. Every year different groups interested in taking part choose one of the pumpkins. These are then hollowed out and painted. In 2008, the 10th anniversary, there was, for example, a Scottish pumpkin, various pumpkins as advertising media, an exchange student pumpkin and much more

The most famous participant in the 10-year history of the race is Leo Swinamer, who has already won six races. He was 73 years old when he last won on October 14, 2007.

The race is internationally known and the regatta is more popular from year to year. In 2008, 10,000 spectators came to see 60 teams paddling across the lake in pumpkins.

The race itself includes three different classes; motorized, experimental, and normal paddling. Not all classes have pumpkins every year. The most popular is the normal paddle class.

The race achieved greater notoriety after the well-known American TV presenter Martha Stewart announced in 2005 that she would participate in the race. Due to a missing entry permit to Canada (due to a tax affair), however, it ultimately did not start.
