The Winter Palace of Bogd Khan is in the south of Ulaanbaatar , the capital of Mongolia , on a road to Zaisan.

The palace, now a museum, was built in 1905 according to plans by a Russian architect who was under the direct orders of Tsar Nicholas II . This is the only surviving of the original four residences of the eighth Jebtsundamba Khutukhtu , who was later proclaimed the Bogd Khan or ruler of Mongolia.

The complex includes six temples. Much of the Bogd Khan's possessions are on display such as his throne and bed, his art collection and stuffed animals, his ornately decorated ceremonial ger and a pair of ceremonial boots that were given to the Khan by the Russian Tsar Nicholas II .
