List of apple varieties |
The Stahls Winterprinz , also called Waddewarder Winterprinz or Winterprinzenapfel , is a very rare apple variety from Northern Germany.
It can be stored for a very long time and was an important supplier of vitamins in winter , especially in bad times ( World War II ). It was a common winter apple until the first half of the 20th century . The long-lived trees can still be found today in old orchards .
The variety does not make high demands on soil and climate, is an extremely robust apple tree and very resistant to diseases and pests. He loves sufficiently moist and not too sandy soils.
The Winter Prince is harvested in mid-October and can be enjoyed from December to April when stored in a cool place. The apple is very large, has a flat round shape and was also considered a table apple. The smooth skin is initially light green, later turns golden yellow with fine red stripes when the apple is ripe. The yellowish white to white pulp tastes sweet and is low in acid.
