A wipe out ( to wipe out = to wipe out , destroy, exterminate) describes a particularly difficult and spectacular fall in the language of the scene of surfers and windsurfers . Some of the most dangerous wipe outs occur in the extreme sport of tow-in surfing .

The dangers of wipe outs are the height of falls onto the water, reefs just below the surface of the water and the suction that hinders surfacing, serious injury and death from drowning .

Instrumental piece

Under the title Wipe Out , an instrumental piece was released in 1962, which was first recorded by the surf rock band The Surfaris . It has been covered many times; among others from the groups The Beach Boys and The Ventures . It was used as film music in the Flipper films, in The Wanderers - Terror in the Bronx and in Dirty Dancing , among others .
