Content and structure

Stanzas

The first verse describes that the whole city has already woken up and rubs its eyes brightly to see what everyone is doing when the students (in the lyrics we) go to school in the morning. In the 2nd stanza the young trees get bigger, but a house grows faster. Everything about the city is changing, tomorrow it will look even more beautiful. In the final third stanza it is explained that the students want to study hard, want to get smarter, that is their power. Life is bright and happy because peace is guarding the people.

refrain

In the chorus between the three-verse text it is stated that the students laugh in competition with the sun and sing as happily as a bird, and that they wish every child around the world had it too.

reception

The pioneer song We laugh with the sun was part of the music lessons in the GDR and was included in various music textbooks and song books from this period.
