Wireless Transport Layer Security

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wireless Transport Layer Security ( WTLS ) is an encryption protocol for the transmission of data using mobile devices. It is based on the TLS protocol and has been optimized for use on mobile devices and in wireless networks. The comparatively low computing power, the amount of available memory and the low bandwidth are the greatest challenges for the use of encryption protocols.

WTLS is part of the WAP stack and, as the name suggests, is located on the transport layer. It provides:

  • Data integrity
  • confidentiality
  • Authentication

In version 2.0 of WAP, WTLS was replaced by the Internet protocol https .
