Joachim Sochaczewski

Joachim Sochaczewski (* 17th October 1931 in Berlin ; † 15. January 2007 in Bonn ) was a lieutenant general of the Air Force of the Armed Forces .

Sochaczewski belongs to the group of generals of the Federal Air Force at the top management level who did not receive their officer and general staff training in the Wehrmacht . As Colonel  i. G. he belonged to the Air Force Command Command from July 15, 1976 to August 31, 1977 as the deputy commander and in the function of chief of staff .

As commander of the 2nd Air Force Division, he took command as major general in Birkenfeld from major general Hans-Wilhelm von Bornstaedt from April 1, 1982 to November 30, 1985.

He then carried out duties as Assistant Chief of Staff Communications and Electronics at the SHAPE Command in Mons within the framework of NATO . In 1989 he was director of the architecture and plans division at NACISA (NATO communications and information systems agency).

From April 1, 1989 to March 31, 1992 he was head of the Air Force Office . After his service, he held the office of chairman of the Association of User Forum for Telecommunications, Computers, Electronics and Automation eV (AFCEA) in Bonn.

During his service, he dealt with the issue of command ability of air force units in the event of air warfare. He emphasized the importance of electronic systems and the possibility of failure in the event of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) because the communication networks are not protected.

He was very critical of the execution at the development stage of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) project because he considered the software unsuitable and impractical for the air force.
