Vladimir Petrovich Staschkewitsch ( Russian: Владимир Петрович Сташкевич ; born March 30, 1930 in Novosibirsk ; † unknown) was a Soviet wrestler and world champion in Karlsruhe in 1955 .

Career

Vladimir Staschkewitsch began as a teenager with the rings and was the early 1950s, because of its obvious great talent for this sport to the Army Sports Club in Rostov-on-Don delegated.

There he developed into an excellent wrestler in the Greco-Roman style. In the following ten years he played a prominent role in the Soviet bantam and featherweight championships and also came to some international assignments.

He had his first success at the Soviet championships in 1951, when he finished third behind Artem Terjan from Kirovobad and Lenc from Moscow . In 1953 he reached this place again at the Soviet championships and was then used in the bantamweight division at the World Youth Festival in Bucharest . This World Youth Festival was a major event initiated by the communist states in the 1950s, at which many sports were played. They took place for the first time in 1951 in Berlin (East). The significance of this event was very high, especially in wrestling, because at that time a large part of the world elite was based in the so-called Eastern Bloc countries.

In Bucharest in 1953, Vladimir defeated the 1952 Hungarian Olympic champion Imre Hódos and won the bantamweight tournament. Wladimir was able to repeat this success in 1955, but this time in featherweight, after he had again become Soviet champion in 1955 in featherweight.

In 1955, Wladimir was also used at the bantamweight championship in Karlsruhe . With six wins, three shoulder wins and three points wins, he won the world title with superiority.

In 1956, Vladimir came in the Soviet championships behind the Georgian Dzneladze only in second place and was then not used at the Olympic Games in Melbourne . In 1957 he was third at the Soviet championships behind Zubkowsij and Mirabi Guduschauri from Tbilisi .

In 1958 he was used for the second time at a world championship. In Budapest he started this time in the featherweight division, but suffered defeats from Müzahir Sille from Turkey and Imre Polyák from Hungary and ended up in third place.

In 1959 he first won the Soviet featherweight championship title in front of Mirabi Guduschauri and Zubkowskij and also won the II. Featherweight People's Partiad in front of Schelygin and Mironov, which was very important in the Soviet Union.

Finally, he was at the Soviet championships in 1960 again behind Mirabi Guduschauri and Konstantin Wyrupajew third winner.

The fact that Vladimir Stashkevich did not play more at international championships in his career is due to the extremely strong competition in his own country and the fact that in the 1950s at the world championships the styles were changed every year. In addition, there were no European championships from 1949 to 1966.
