Gauge : 600 mm ( narrow gauge )

The Wirsitzer Kreisbahn ( Polish: Wyrzyskie Koleje Powiatowe ) was a narrow-gauge railway in the Wirsitz district in the then Prussian province of Posen (from 1921 Powiat Wyrzysk in the Posen Voivodeship ) with a track width of 600 mm.

history

The district of Wirsitz had been connected to rail traffic since 1851 by the eastern railway line Bromberg – Schneidemühl, which runs parallel to the network in the south. In the middle and north of the district, a small railroad network was to serve the transport of people and goods. This came from the eastern railway stations Nakel , the largest town in the district with 8,800 inhabitants, and Weißenhöhe / Białośliwie .

The district commissioned the Ostdeutsche Kleinbahn-AG with the construction, from 1899 the East German Railway Company , which had its seat in Bromberg until 1903. She also ran the business until June 30, 1909, which the district then took over itself.

On May 15, 1895, the 29-kilometer route from Weißenhöhe via Koczik Mühle-Niezychowo-Czajcze / Heinrichsfelde to Lobsens (2,400 inhabitants) was opened, from which a branch line to Wissek / Wysoka (4.6 km) branched off from the trains Weißenhöhe – Lobsen was also operated. From Lobsens, where the management was based until 1905, the railway reached via Liszkowo (later renamed Witzleben) after a further 18.3 kilometers the Witoslaw station on the national branch line Nakel – Vandsburg ( Więcbork ).

From Nakel on October 3rd, 1895 operations began on the following routes:

  • Nakel – Trzeciewnica – Dembowko 10.7 km with a junction at km 5.2 to Erlau 3.5 km
  • Nakel – Trzeciewnica – Suchary – district boundary 9.8 km. (The trains went to Gumnowitz station on the Bromberger Kreisbahn)

A connection between the two small railroad lines only came about when the following lines started freight traffic on September 21, 1901 and passenger traffic, which was very weak, on August 5, 1903:

  • Niezychowo (sugar factory) –Hermannsdorf – Erlau 34.8 km
  • Wissek – Moschütz – Grabau – Koczik mill 25.3 km

Now only a few short freight railways were added, among them (1906) a four-kilometer connection from Weißenhöhe to the Netzehafen.

In contrast, the district town of Wirsitz / Wyrzysk with only 1,700 inhabitants never got a connection to the district railway; Netzthal station (until around 1875 Osiek) on the Ostbahn had to be sufficient for them, where in 1914 even a pair of express trains stopped. Since 1920 or 1945 the place Netzthal has been called Osiek nad Notecią again.

In 1914, the network was 144 kilometers long. There were 15 steam locomotives, 7 passenger cars, 2 baggage cars, 440 freight cars and 10 special cars. Together with the Bromberger Kreisbahn, the Wirsitzer Kreisbahn formed a coherent narrow-gauge network of 260 kilometers in length.

Continued operation until 1993

In Weißenhöhe (officially Białośliwie again from 1920 ) and Nakło there were railway depots . In 1920 the section Koczik Mill - Wysoka ( Wissek ) was closed. Around 1923, a seven-kilometer connection between the Liszkowo station on the northern line and the Radzicz ( Hermannsdorf ) station on the southern line was built. In 1926 part of the line that had been closed in 1920 was reopened, from Wysoka to Mościska ( Moschütz ).

In 1948 the Wyrzyskie Koleje Powiatowe were merged with the remaining network of the Bydgoskie Koleje Powiatowe (formerly Bromberger Kreisbahn ) to form the Bydgosko-Wyrzyskie Koleje Dojazdowe . Their route network initially comprised 206.76 kilometers. In 1970 the Wysoka – Mościska part was finally closed. 1979 ended the passenger traffic in the section Witosław - Łobżenica , 1980 Łobżenica – Białośliwie and on December 31, 1991 Nakło– Morzewiec . The section Witosław - Dziunin was canceled in 1992.

Freight traffic ended in 1992 in the sections Liszkowo ( Witzleben ) - Dębówko Stare and Radzicz-Zakłady Przemysłowe (?) Junction (?), Possibly the Zakład Rolniczo-Przemysłowy plant) and on the connecting line to the Nakło sugar factory, on December 31, 1993 then on the whole Route.

Promotion numbers

The transport services comprised 82,255 people in 1939/40. In 1941 there were 185,796 tons of goods. The top performance was achieved by the railway in 1958 with 293,000 tons of goods. In 1992 it was 75,000 tons, 45,000 tons of which were beets.

Museum train

The remnants of the railway that still exist have been under monument protection since 2008. The local association Towarzystwo Wyrzyska Kolejka Powiatowa in Białośliwie has been taking care of the maintenance of the vehicles and the operational readiness of the route since 2001. However, he currently only organizes train journeys on request. Since April 1, 2009, the railway system has belonged to the Powiat Pilski (Piła District), which took it over from the PKP. Since 2011, the portion Białośliwie ( White Height ) -Kozik Młyn ( Koczik mill ) into operation. The steam locomotive Px38-805 is in use.

The section north of the S10 Niezychowo-Czajcze (Heinrichsfelde) - Wissek has been accessible again since May 2013. Every year at the beginning of June there is a large narrow-gauge meeting with several guest locomotives.
