There is a school subject in Bavaria and Thuringia as well as in Austria under the title Economics and Law . However, the contents are not the same.

Bavaria

In Bavaria are economic and legal knowledge in the fields of economics and law taught. In recent years, business circles have repeatedly called for the content of business and law to be taught in general schools in all federal states. The subject is now so well established in Bavaria that the change to the new curriculum (G8) has increased the number of compulsory lessons in economics and law . The subject is taught from grade 9 at Bavarian grammar schools. If you choose the high school economics branch , economics and law is a core subject from grade 8. Business informatics is also taught there. In the upper level of the G8, either economics and law or geography is compulsory. The subject is taught at Bavarian secondary schools from year 8.

Thuringia

Since 1990 the school subject economics and law is in Thuringia. The curriculum provides for one hour per week from the eighth grade onwards. At grammar schools it can also be taken as a subject with a basic requirement level ( basic course ) with 2 or as a subject with an increased requirement level ( advanced course ) with 4 hours per week in grades 11 and 12. It is one of the social sciences and can cover this area for the Abitur alone.

The main topics of business and law in Thuringia are basics from business (e.g. the functional principle of a market economy , relationship between supply and demand) and from law (e.g. contract law , family law , criminal law ).

As part of the course system at mainstream schools , a new subject economics, law, technology was introduced, which combines the two subjects economics and law (only Realschule) and economics and technology (only Hauptschule).

Austria

At higher technical, commercial and arts and crafts schools (BHS / HTL , FS, etc.), economics lessons are divided into the subjects economics and technology and law and political education . One subject there is economics and law (WE).
