The Wisconsin Central Railway was a railroad company in the northern United States.

history

Wisconsin Central was founded in 1871 and reached Ashland, Wisconsin in 1877, Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1884, Chicago in 1886 and Superior (Wisconsin) in 1908. The Northern Pacific Railway leased the line from 1890 to 1893. From 1909, the line was leased to the MStP & SSM ( Soo Line Railroad ), which gave them access to Chicago, the northern ore mining areas and Wisconsin's Fox River Valley. This ended with the bankruptcy of WC in 1932. After that, Soo Line operated WC until the merger took place in 1960.
