The Wittmann GmbH is an Austrian manufacturer of exclusive furniture .
history
The company was founded in 1896 as a saddlery by Franz Wittmann. In the beginning saddlery was made for the farmers in the area. The grandson Franz Wittmann switched production to furniture construction and upholstery . Initially, customers were mainly from the region, but the company grew significantly in the 1960s.
The cooperation with the architect Johannes Spalt , who provided designs together with Friedrich Kurrent , was of great importance .
Carla Hoffmann, Josef Hoffmann's widow , entrusted the company with the rights for her husband's designs. Wittmann began to reproduce Hoffmann furniture in the 1970s, including models such as Fledermaus , Purkersdorf , Haus Koller , Armlöffel and the famous Kubus . Today, Heinz Hofer-Wittmann and his wife Ulrike Wittmann run the family business in the fourth generation.
Three quarters of the production is exported to the EU , the USA and Asia .
