In the 1980s the district building was extensively restored for almost one million marks, including a. the windows and outer facade were renovated and the mighty vaulted ceilings inside the building were repaired.

Meaning and flair

The district building has a special meaning for the residents. Since its inauguration, it has been one of the most beautiful buildings in Wittmund's city center. The design planning took into account the existing building stock on the market square. At the same time, planners and clients tried to create a new wealth of decorations to express the change of the century.

The mighty slate roof of the district building with the roof core in the manner of tower tops is also impressive. The side fronts show a similar decoration scheme as the facade, while the rear wall remained largely unadorned. The center of the interior of the building is the meeting room. In the design of this representation room, it was shown what local craftsmen can achieve. Along all four walls, 44 pictures drawn in a blue tone with motifs from the district area are embedded in the wooden paneling within its original boundaries. The wall end towards the ceiling is adorned with coats of arms on the long sides, which are mainly assigned to the East Frisian area.
