Vladimir Karpovich Pikalov

Wladimir Karpowitsch Pikalow ( Russian Владимир Карпович Пикалов ; born September 15, 1924 in Armavir , † March 29, 2003 in Moscow ) was a Soviet colonel general and commander of the chemical troops of the USSR from 1968 to 1988. During the nuclear disaster he was in charge of Chernos the specialized military units on site. He arrived at the scene of the accident on the afternoon of April 26, 1986.

On December 24, 1986, he was awarded the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union for his role in containing the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster .

During the Second World War he was wounded several times in the battles for Moscow , Stalingrad and Kursk .

In the series Chernobyl he is played by the actor Mark Lewis Jones .
