Week for life

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The week for life is an action week (starts on the second Saturday after Easter Sunday) of the Protestant and Catholic churches in Germany with an annually changing focus.

It has been celebrated since 1991 and goes back to an initiative of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) and the German Bishops' Conference (DBK). The Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) has also participated in this initiative since 1994 .

The week itself consists of events in church institutions and parishes, which are also intended to serve as a forum for information and discussion and as an expression of opinion by the churches in Germany. From the point of view of the self-claims of the participating churches, the week for life serves to promote social awareness of the dangers to human life, which is called for protection.
