Wohindamit.org

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

woindamit.org is a free online platform for arranging donations in kind to social institutions in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . Currently (as of February 2019) 623 social institutions are registered on the platform. The registered institutions include large international organizations such as Oxfam and institutions of the German Caritas Association , as well as locally active social initiatives.

Emergence

The idea for the non-profit platform came up in 2013 in Munich . While almost 300 institutions were represented in the database in 2016, there are now more than 600. According to initiator Peter Wehner, the aim of the project is to network willing donors and suitable social institutions quickly and easily in order to increase the willingness to donate for used goods in good condition. In addition to the social purpose, the project also pursues the ecological goal of a more sustainable use of produced goods.

functionality

The platform offers social institutions the opportunity to present themselves in a profile and to communicate the current need for donations in kind . In turn, the platform offers potential donors in kind a quick overview of the main areas of activity of social institutions and their needs for used goods.

Social facilities

Social institutions can register free of charge using a web form on the platform. Mandatory information is the name and full address of the institution. The prerequisite for acceptance is the non-profit character of the facility and the willingness to accept donations in kind. There is no right to an entry. Furthermore, social facilities can also be suggested by users for inclusion.

Donors in kind

Potential donations in kind are divided into 7 categories. The users choose whether the items to be donated are furniture, electronics / hi-fi, books / sound carriers, toys, household items, clothing or vehicles. By entering a zip code, street or place name, a map with all suitable social facilities in the vicinity is then displayed. By clicking on a facility, its exact address, opening times and other relevant information, such as whether the accepted items will be given away or resold, will appear.

advancement

The initiative Startsocial eV, under the patronage of Chancellor Angela Merkel , awarded the project in 2015/16 with a consulting grant as part of a nationwide competition. The evaluation criteria of the startsocial competition, which supports 100 selected projects every year, are social effectiveness, sustainability, economic efficiency and transferability.
