Moderator Enie van de Meiklokjes and site manager Mark Kühler visited a candidate in his apartment. There they renovated a room, a house or the garden. They were supported by professional craftsmen and relatives or friends of the candidate.

Later on, Nina Moghaddam and Anja Backhaus took turns moderating and accompanying site managers Mick Wewers and Sascha Slechta.

The candidates had to apply with photos of the house and family and justify why they needed a comprehensive renovation. Often young adults applied who wanted to thank their parents. The affected apartments had not been worked on for many years, mostly because the family had suffered a stroke of fate. The broadcaster covered all costs for building materials, furniture and other furnishings.

renovation

Before the team came for the first time, the candidates were already clearing the cupboards. This prevented “embarrassing” from being brought to light. The house was completely renovated within four days. In early episodes, residents spent this time on vacation or with relatives and - allegedly - knew nothing of their happiness. In the later episodes the residents were asked for their consent in advance and sent to a hotel for the renovation. There they received several video messages from the construction site.

The moderator and the site manager were attended by a team of craftsmen and several specialists for windows, heating and the like. supported. The relatives of the residents who had applied to VOX also helped. At the beginning of each construction day, the upcoming work was presented to TV viewers with a 3D model of the house. In addition, do-it-yourselfers received tips from the professionals through comments and overlay.

On the evening of the fourth day, the residents returned and were greeted by their relatives and the moderators at the door. Then they went through the individual rooms to view and comment on the result of the renovation.
