Wolfenstein (rock)
The Wolfenstein is a solitary rock formation in Bavaria between Tirschenreuth and Hohenwald.
Due to severe weathering of wool sacks , the granite blocks look like sacks stacked on top of one another.
The Wolfenstein is said to have been an old Germanic sacrificial stone . According to an old legend, there is a large treasure trove with gold, silver and precious stones in enormous quantities, which opens every year on Palm Sunday .
The Wolfenstein is designated as a geotope (377R017) and natural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment . The massive granite rock formation has feldspar sprouts of different sizes.
