Wolfgang Girke

Wolfgang Girke (* 1941 in Mainz ) is a German Slavist .

After studying Russian and English at the University of Mainz , Wolfgang Girke received his doctorate in 1968 and then took up a position as an assistant at the University of Konstanz . There he completed his habilitation in 1977 and in the same year was called back to the University of Mainz as professor for Slavic Linguistics, where he stayed until his retirement in 2006. He is a founding member of the Slavic Konstanzer Kreis .

Girke published works on Soviet sociolinguistics together with Helmut Jachnow in the 1970s , later he mainly worked on text linguistics .
