Wolfgang Rose (association official)

Wolfgang Rose (born January 18, 1950 in Heidenheim ) is a German trade unionist and association functionary. Until 2014 he was chairman of the Auto Club Europa (ACE).

Life and work

After eight years of elementary school, Rose learned the trade of industrial clerk . In the 1960s he was a member of the youth organization of the Textile Clothing Union (GTB). He fought for the voting age 18 and made a front against the emergency laws. During this time he joined the SPD in 1969 .

After completing basic training in the Bundeswehr, he refused to work with the weapon and was recognized as a conscientious objector . He completed his community service in a home for the mentally ill in Buttenhausen on the Swabian Alb .

He is widowed and has three grown children.

Political career

His political involvement, particularly in the trade union movement, resulted in training as a trade union secretary at the GTB . He served the union in various functions for 30 years, most recently as deputy head of the staff department of the then IG Metall chairman Klaus Zwickel .

Rose was elected chairman of the ACE in autumn 2001 and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Rose is a member of the board of the German Road Safety Council (DVR). He is also the chairman of the Working Group on Breakdown and Accident Aid. V. (APU), in which leading automobile clubs and associations of the automotive industry have come together.

Rose was appointed to the advisory board of the Deutsche Verkehrswacht . He is also a member of the Presidium of the Association of European Automobile Clubs (EAC), which he co-founded.
