Wolfgang von Szeliga-Mierzeyewski
Wolfgang Wladislaus Albert von Szeliga-Mierzeyewski (born May 16, 1926 in Kuressaare (German Arensburg)) on the Baltic Sea island Saaremaa (Ösel) in Estonia is a local researcher of the German-speaking Öseltum.
He became known for his work as a local researcher of the German-speaking Öseltum. He is the editor of the Arensburger Wochenblatt newspaper , which appears four times a year in German. The newspaper is the leading organ of the German-speaking Öseltum and is also read in Estonia . Von Szeliga represents non-partisan and democratic principles and enjoys a high reputation at Ösel.
Life
Von Szeliga spent his childhood in Estonia and left the country with his parents in 1939 during the Baltic German resettlement . As a resettler, he first lived in occupied Poland . After the Second World War he worked as an insurance officer in Germany. He has been retired since 1989.
