Speedway Team Wolfslake , formerly MC Eichenring Wolfslake and Wolfslake Falubaz Berlin , is a team in the German Speedway Bundesliga . The team won the Bundesliga in 2004 as RG Parchim / Wolfslake and was able to achieve several second and third places. Wolfslake carries out his home races on the 335 meter long Eichenring Wolfslake , municipality of Oberkrämer, a little northwest of Berlin. Wolfslake has had a cooperation with the Polish association ZKŻ Zielona Góra , called Falubaz , for several years .

history

The first race on the later Eichenring took place in 1980. The event itself was not approved during the GDR era and, according to later information from former participants, was more illegal than legal . In the same year a more permanent track was built and the following year, 1981, an association, the MC Eichenring Wolfslake, was founded. The first official race took place on a 365-meter speedway track on August 29, 1981 in front of 9,500 spectators.

Before the fall of the Berlin Wall , Wolfslake organized three races (1983, 1986, 1988) for the Cup for Peace and Friendship ; an international series of races in which the best drivers from real socialist countries took part. In 1990 the trophy took place in Wolfslake for the first time with drivers from Western Europe, and in 1991/1992 the quarter-finals of the Junior World Championship took place on the Eichenring.

At the same time as it opened in 1990, the association ran into financial problems because the state support that had previously been available was no longer available. The association had to fight for sponsors and lost a large part of its members in the years after 1990. In 1993 the name was changed to Speedwayteam (ST) Wolfslake .

The club has been competing in the Speedway Bundesliga since 1994. In 2001/2002 he took a break for financial reasons. Between 2002 and 2005 he formed a team with the MC Mecklenburgring Parchim from Parchim and in this constellation he achieved the greatest success in the club's history as a German team champion. Also in 2012 Wolfslake withdrew from the Bundesliga for financial reasons. Wölfe Wittstock founded parts of the club , who then competed in the Bundesliga for some time. Wolfslake returned in 2013 with the support of Falubaz Zielona Góra.

Cooperation with Falubaz Zielona Góra

Speedway is a successful spectator sport in Poland, with visitor numbers similar to that of football. Races are regularly televised and the Polish Speedway Ekstraliga is the strongest and best financially equipped speedway league in the world. Falubaz from Zielona Góra in Silesia is one of the top clubs in the league. He has had a cooperation with Wolfslake since 2013. In Wolfslake, Falubaz drivers can get additional races and practice while at the same time upgrading the German team. In addition, Zielona Góra is only a short distance across the German-Polish border, so that the fans can visit each other and watch the other team's races.
