Designation of the bell parts

The lower part of a bell jacket is called the Wolm (also called a wreath ) .

The medieval beehive bell does not yet have a Wolm. The cross-section (rib) of a modern church bell since the so-called sugar loaf bell has a slender part, the so-called flank, and a more domed part, the wolm. At its lower limit there is usually a bead with the brass knuckle, where the bell has the greatest wall thickness. There are often decorations on the wolm, such as a frieze made of ornaments.
