Woodward Inc. is an American manufacturer of control systems and components for gas and steam turbines . Woodward was founded in 1870 as the Woodward Governor Company by Amos Woodward. The company began with the manufacture of controls for water turbines and manufactured controls for diesel and gasoline engines from the 1920s. The turbines of the first jet aircraft of the US Air Force had controls from Woodward. In 2018, Woodward took over the German manufacturer of diesel injection systems L'Orange for around 700 million euros from Rolls-Royce Power Systems .
