Words I Never Said (dt. Words that I never said ) is a song by the US rapper Lupe Fiasco . The song was released as the second single from his album Lasers on February 8, 2011. The chorus is sung by the singer Skylar Gray , who later recorded her own version called Words .

background

Originally Lupe Fiasco received a version of the track with the vocals of Skylar Gray. This includes both the chorus and a bridge , which dealt with the topic of "failed relationships". Fiasco cut this out to make it a more Conscious Rapor- oriented political number. In contrast to the solo version of Skylar Gray, the song is much more political. It covers controversial political issues such as September 11th and the subsequent War on Terror , US financial policy and the occupation of the Gaza Strip . In the song itself, conservative radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are referred to as racists .

The song was produced by the English music producer Alex da Kid . On January 18, 2011, a teaser was published that only contained a few excerpts. The full track premiered on February 1, 2011. The single cover was released on that day .

On April 27, 2011, the music video for the song was released. Directed by Sanaa Hamri . The film shows excerpts from daily political events and from news programs, in particular from political debates and war reports. The text is displayed in the style of a cinema advertisement.

reception

The track reached number 89 on the US singles chart.

The British rapper Lowkey sampled the lines of text

"Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza Strip was getting bombed, Obama didn't say shit"

for his song Obama Nation (Pt. 2) feat. M-1 and Black teh Ripper on his second album Soundtrack to the Struggle .
