Workhorse Group Inc. (Workhorse = German: work horse) is an American manufacturer of commercial vehicles and chassis based in Loveland (Ohio) . Production is also carried out in a plant in Union City (Indiana) , where the company was founded in 1998 as Workhorse Custom Chassis, LLC . It was created by outsourcing the P-chassis division from General Motors to the GVW Group , LLC in Highland Park, Illinois . In 2005, Navistar acquired Workhorse Custom Chassis from the GVW Group, to which Navistar had previously supplied diesel engines. In 2013, AMP Holding Inc , which also includes electric vehicle manufacturer AMP Electric Vehicles Inc. , took over Workhorse Custom Chassis from Navistar, changed the company name to Workhorse Group Incorporated in 2015 , and Workhorse began offering electrically powered delivery vans.
Workhorse Custom Chassis' first products were the P30 and P32 chassis of the P series for parcel transporters, school buses and mobile homes . Later, Workhorse's first new development was the W-series chassis such as the W16, W18, W20, W22, W24, W42, W62 and W88 for mobile homes that are equipped with gasoline engines. The low-floor chassis LF72 (LF = Low-Floor) is intended for buses and mobile homes. The UFO chassis (UFO = Universal Fuel Option) have the engines built into the rear, they can be equipped with both diesel and gasoline engines. Currently (2017) the company is focusing on the manufacture of chassis and the manufacture of gasoline-electric transporters for parcel delivery. The introduction of an electrically powered pick-up is planned for the future . There are also drones that take off from the roof of a parcel truck.
