organization

WASBE was founded in 1981 in Manchester (Great Britain) and has been a member of the United Nations UNESCO cultural organization since 1989 . In 2007 WASBE and its national organizations had more than 1200 members from more than 50 countries. The German section emerged from the joint Germany-Austria section in 2002, and the president of the German section is Rolf Rudin .

The aim of WASBE is to make symphonic wind orchestras known to the public as a serious musical orchestral form and a serious cultural medium. The organization promotes the international dissemination of original compositions for symphonic wind orchestras, i.e. works that were composed especially for this form of orchestra. It assigns composition commissions and organizes composition competitions, organizes worldwide exchange programs for musicians and conductors, organizes further training measures and conferences. In 1983 an international conference was held for the first time, which has since taken place every two years in different locations, including Norway, Belgium, USA, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Ireland and Taiwan. WASBE publishes the annual WASBE-Journal and quarterly the international wind magazine WASBE World.
