Rolf Rudin
Rolf Rudin (born December 9, 1961 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German composer .
Life
Rudin attended the Goethe-Gymnasium and the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory . After graduating from high school, he studied school music in Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg , composition with Hans Ulrich Engelmann , Bertold Hummel and Heinz Winbeck, as well as conducting with Günther Wich and music theory with Zsolt Gárdonyi . He obtained diplomas in composition (1991) and conducting (1992). He then taught until 2001 as a lecturer in music theory at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . Since then he has been working as a freelance composer.
From 1999 to 2005 Rolf Rudin was a member of the international board of the WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles), and since 2003 he has been the deputy chairman of the regional sections Hessen / Saarland / Rhineland-Palatinate of the German composers' association. In 2011 Rolf Rudin was appointed to the “Education” technical committee of the German Cultural Council, of which he was a member until 2016. Since November 2012 he has been President of the German section of WASBE.
He was invited to various festivals and universities in Europe and the USA as a “guest composer”.
Rolf Rudin lives and works in Bruchköbel .
In addition to some published works by Boosey & Hawkes / Bote & Bock and Schott, he has been self-publishing his works since 1994.
He is married and has three sons.
Awards
- Scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation
- 1991/1992: Scholarship from the Bavarian Ministry of Culture for a six-month stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris
- 2010: Culture Prize of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis
- 2012: 1st prize for Die Sternseherin in the competition for the Valentin Becker Prize

- 1999 at the 3rd International Gustav Bumcke Competition in Hanover
- 2000 at the 4th European Competition for Harmony Orchestra in Strasbourg
- 2000 at the 5th German Orchestra Competition in Karlsruhe
- 2001 at the 14th Wereld Muziek Concours in Kerkrade
