The German Music Festival , and 2001 German Federal Music Festival is a music - event in Germany , the Federal Association of German Music Associations aligns (BDMV) every six years. Concerts and musical competitions are organized as part of the music festival.

In 1989 the first German Federal Music Festival took place in Trier under the patronage of Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl , as did the second in 1995 in Münster . The last German Federal Music Festival under this name followed in Friedrichshafen in 2001 , with the incumbent Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as patron.
The first German Music Festival took place from May 17th to 20th, 2007 in Würzburg under the patronage of Federal President Horst Köhler . 376 orchestras with a total of 15,894 musicians took part. The fifth German Music Festival from May 9 to 12, 2013 in Chemnitz took place for the first time in the new federal states.
The sixth German Music Festival took place from May 30th to June 2nd, 2019 under the patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Osnabrück .
