World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies

The World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) is the official world organization of national and international medical societies for acupuncture and moxibustion . On January 27, 1998, the World Health Organization accredited the WFAS as part of agenda item 17.1 of the 101st session (AZ EB101.R21).

General

The WFAS was founded on November 22, 1987 by 52 national and 5 international medical societies. In 2007 the membership was 95 national associations representing over 100,000 acupuncture specialists.

Core tasks

  • Publication of the World Journal of Acupuncture-Moxibustion
  • Annually organizes the World Congress for Acupuncture and other international congresses
  • Standardization of acupuncture worldwide (Note: She played a leading role in the globally valid "Guidelines on Basic Training and Safety in Acupuncture (WHO / EDM / TRM 99.1)", which are also reflected in the medical (model) training regulations in Germany today .)
  • International cooperation with the WHO and other noteworthy scientific institutions
