World Literacy Summit

The World Literacy Summit is held since 2012 on a biennial international conference that the problem is lack of literacy (English, literacy ) of children and adults apart sets. The work of the delegates is primarily devoted to the illiteracy that is still widespread in many countries around the world . In addition, topics are dealt with that deal with the acquisition of basic education - such as dealing with new information technologies , media skills or learning about simple political contexts - as a prerequisite for successful participation in society.

The first World Literacy Summit took place from April 1st to 4th, 2012 in Oxford , England. At the end of the conference, attended by 249 delegates from 52 countries, the participants signed the Oxford Declaration in which they called for solutions to improve the global illiteracy crisis.

The second World Literacy Summit took place again in Oxford from April 14-16, 2014 and had the motto "Literacies: the Power to Change". The second conference focused on the exchange of delegates to discuss strategies for improving the reading and writing skills of children and adults. In her keynote speech , Haifa Fahoum Al Kaylani , founder of the Arab International Women's Forum , urged delegates to "shed light on the personal, political, cultural, social and economic benefits of literacy".
