World Opponent Network

World Opponent Network ( WON ) refers to a client-server-based network that is required for multiplayer games from games by the publisher Sierra Entertainment (see also Half-Life ). WON has been used by games like Homeworld , Half-Life, Star Trek: Armada , Soldier of Fortune , Dark Reign 2, and online versions of casino games. The shutdown of the WON server began on August 1, 2004 , contrary to protests from players. A similar server network is e.g. B. Battle.net from Blizzard Entertainment .

Today, in addition to the official Steam created by Valve, there is the open source platform WON2 .
