The World Union for Progressive Judaism was founded in London in 1926 . It is based in Jerusalem .

According to its own information, the Union represents 1.8 million Jews in 45 countries. Rabbi Stephen Lewis Fuchs (USA) is President of WUPJ . Progressive Judaism includes liberal Judaism , which is particularly known in North America as “Reform Judaism”, and reconstructionist Judaism - which represents a small minority of 65,000 (2013) members. The liberals or reformers believe in a progressive revelation of God in which every generation has its share. The Reconstructionists believe in no revelation and consider the ancient Jewish manners and customs as a cultural heritage that must be preserved.
