Write Anywhere File Layout

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Write Anywhere File Layout ( WAFL ) is a file system that was developed by NetApp for their mass storage systems using the Data Ontap operating system. It is related to UNIX file systems such as the Berkeley Fast File System and Transarcs Episode File System .

WAFL's design was optimized for network file access, so capabilities such as uninterrupted expansion of a file system were implemented from the ground up. An important feature is that with this file system, snapshots of the file system can be created without interruption. Local backups are thus z. B. very easy in Windows.
