Wódka Wyborowa

Wyborowa (adj. Lit. selected , from Polish wybór for selection ) or Wódka Wyborowa is a Polish vodka brand . It is considered to be the oldest internationally sold vodka brand in the world.

The production of the vodka brand began in 1823 in a distillery in Posen , Poland owned by the Jewish businessman Hartwig Kantorowicz. Initially, only the adjective wyborowa was chosen as the brand name . Later the word wódka (Polish for vodka ) was added and today's brand name was created. Until 1873 only the Polish domestic market was served, but from 1873 it was also exported to other European countries. In 1927 Wódka Wyborowa became the first international vodka brand.

In the 1950s and 1960s Wódka Wyborowa conquered all major European markets and included, for example, B. in Great Britain over 60% of all vodka imports. During the political upheaval in the late 1980s and early 1990s and the associated economic change, the Poznań distillery, like many other Polish companies, got serious economic difficulties and was close to bankruptcy . However, due to its international fame, the distillery was bought by the French wine and spirits company Pernod Ricard .

Wódka Wyborowa is traditionally delivered in 0.7 l bottles and with an alcohol content of exactly 40%.

Vodka Wyborowa is in a Polish-language version of Eisgekühlter Bommerlunder (Zamrożona Wyborowa) addressed and the Toten Hosen in the film Hochzeitspolka of Lars Jessen played. The music video for Zamrożona Wyborowa was first presented on September 10, 2010 on the band's official website.
