XCircuit is free software for the schematic representation of electrical circuits and enables them to be saved as PostScript or SPICE files. XCircuit can run under both Unix-like operating systems and Windows , but requires an X server .
It was developed in 1993 by Tim Edwards at Johns Hopkins University in Laurel as a drawing program for electrical engineering classes. Today, XCircuit is largely used for presentation purposes and for design automation .
